Portrait Session Details

We'd love to be your family photographers, documenting your children's lives from newborn to newlywed.  It is our passion to help your family capture memories that will last a lifetime and assist you in identifying your personal style when it comes to displaying family images.

Time slips by so quickly and, undeniably, you cannot capture this moment again.

BOOKING YOUR SESSION - Call me when you are ready to book so we can plan your location, themes, and design - something unique to you and your family.  Keep in mind we book up very quickly on the weekends and all dates surrounding holidays. Our family portrait season is Oct 1 - Nov 30th.  It's a perfect time to update your family image for Christmas Cards and gift giving.

We are happy to schedule sessions up to 12 months in advance.

Complementary Planning Session - A fabulous portrait experience starts with a complementary planning session.  We love to do these in person at the studio but can be persuaded to consult over the phone if your schedule is simply too hectic.

We want you to get excited about your session. Most of our clients like to meet prior to their session. This is when we plan the details of your photo session.

Ideally, this planning session is scheduled at least two weeks before your photo session.

CLOTHING - Keep clothing choices simple.  Consider solid colors or basic patterns. We suggest that preteens wear long pants, and avoid lettering and logos if possible. We can accommodate a simple change of clothing, if desired.

ACCESSORIES - For a little variety, extra pieces of jewelry, scarves, hats and jackets are a great addition - especially for a little pop of color.  If you wear nail polish, make sure it is fresh. For themed sessions, feel free to bring fun elements that you would like included in your session.

HAIR & MAKEUP - Details, details, details!  Hair should be freshly shampooed and styled. Avoid experimenting with a new style the day of the session. Also, try not to plan a new haircut immediately before a session; 7-10 days before is probably best. If you color your hair, you will be happier with the finished product if your hair color is fresh. Photoshop to correct overlooked details is expensive. Bring along a hair brush and powder.

BUSINESS HEAD SHOTS & CORPORATE PORTRAITS  - For men, we recommend bringing more than one color choice in shirt and tie to your appointment.  Same attention to detail as for a portrait session but keep in mind a fresh shave is a good idea. An early morning appointment might be best or bring an electric razor to an afternoon appointment.  For women, you may also want to bring more than one clothing choice, extra jewelry, and other accessories to add a little pop of color to your session.  Who said business head shots had to be boring?

BEACH PHOTOGRAPHY - We schedule our beach portraits at sunrise or sunset to take advantage of the best light quality.  Here are a few suggestions for thing to bring along:  a bottle of water, a hair brush or comb, and a beach towel, a change of clothes for kids is a good idea.  For beach photography, we recommend the colors of the sand, sea and sky . . . blues, browns, tans, greens, white, khaki or black. For family portraits or engagement sessions, think outside of the box. It is nice to compliment one another, but it is not necessary to match.

CHILDREN -  We love children and you can trust us to be patient and kind. We want your children to have fun and we want to capture precious images you’ll cherish for a lifetime.

It's a good idea to photograph children before 11:00 am for studio shots. If you are interested in having more than one child under five years old photographed on the same day, bring along a friend or nanny. You'll get the most from the session if we can focus on one child at a time.

For small children, please bring along any special blankets or "lovies" they find comforting.  It is best not to plan too much the day or evening before a sitting and please don't practice smiling. Most of all, relax! The magical moments in life, can't be forced, they can only be enjoyed. Please don't promise your child anything in advance of a session.  They'll want that cookie after the first 3 shots and it can mean all downhill from there.

NEWBORN BABIES - Our newborn sessions are scheduled in the morning and early afternoon.  We dedicate at least 2-3 hours to our newborn moms & baby appointments.  I know it sounds funny, but don't forget to shampoo baby's hair. A warm soapy wash cloth is quick and effective. A baby lotion massage prior to the photo session is perfect for newborn skin adjusting to their new environment.  Relax and enjoy this precious time.  We do not rush our newborn sessions and have no expectation that babies will eat, sleep or wake on command. We simply document your tiny miracle and create beautiful memories you will cherish forever.

Our clients trust us to make professional suggestions for selecting, displaying and archiving their favorite images.  We have carefully created a menu of professional services and fun, creative, unique products that are perfect for all ages and stages.
